The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has warned government that any intentions to bring in wage freeze will be met with repulsion from the labour movement in the country.

ZCTU President Chishimba Nkole says Zambian workers have suffered enough and any moves to worsen this suffering will not be tolerated.

The ZCTU President says this warning should not be taken lightly.

Mr. Nkole says the collective bargaining system has been severely strained by the inability by employers to respond favorably.

He says negotiations in the public sector have stalled and that the union is not sure whether a wage freeze has not been sneaked in through the back door.

He cautions that the labour movement is watching!

Mr. Nkole says it is difficult to demand adherence to the principle of collective bargaining in the private sector when the government is in the forefront in frustrating the process.

And the ZCTU President is appalled by the many workers who have been retired in national interest by the government.

Mr. Nkole says these workers have families and relatives to take care of and it is inhuman to retire such workers against their wish saying this is unacceptable.
