One person has died while ten others have been infected after being beaten by rabid dogs in Kapiri Mposhi district.

Central Province Minister Sydney Mushanga has told QTV News that samples collected and taken to the Ministry of Livestock for analysis have confirmed the outbreak of rabies in the district.

Mr. Mushanga says government has since released K100, 000 towards controlling the outbreak of the disease.

He says part of the money will go towards vaccination of over 8, 000 dogs in the district.

Mr Mushanga explains that treating a single person who has rabies costs K750.00, thus the need to ensure that the outbreak is contained.

The Central Province Minister has since directed local authorities in the province to work hand in hand with the Zambia Police Service in shooting dead stray dogs and all unregistered dogs in the province.
