Lawyer Makebi Zulu has sued the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) after he was recently summoned to answers to charges of professional misconduct.

Mr. Zulu of the law firm Makebi Zulu Advocates who is also Eastern Province Minister, was summoned to appear before LAZ’s Legal Practitioners’ Committee today, Friday 24th March over allegations of flouting rule 17, 6 and 5 of the legal practitioners’ rules over a comment he made in the media on a legal subject.

But his lawyer and ruling Patriotic Front counsel, Tutwa Ngulube has told QTV News that owing to this law suit filed in the High Court, Mr. Zulu cannot appear before the LAZ Legal Practitioners’ Committee.

Mr. Ngulube says the association’s hands are now tied to act or hear allegations leveled against Mr. Zulu in view of this litigation.

He however, could not discuss further the grounds upon which Mr Zulu has sued the Law Association of Zambia.

Mr. Ngulube says his client wants to enforce his right to freedom of expression.
