High water levels stall Hook bridge rehabs

Chitotela

Water levels in the Kafue River have exceeded historical levels at the Hook Bridge in the Kafue National Park owing to this year’s heavy rainfall.

Housing and Infrastructure Development Minister Ronald Chitotela says the water levels have risen by three meters since December 2016 stalling rehabilitation works on the bridge.

Mr. Chitotela has told Parliament in a Ministerial statement that this high level and velocity of water is causing a great danger to the old bridge structure which is being rehabilitated by China Henan International Cooperation Limited.

Mr. Chitotela says rehabilitation works on the 270 meter Bridge along the Lusaka- Mongu Road which commenced in August 2015 at a contract sum of  K147 million, is scheduled for completion in August this year.
