Kitwe man electrocuted while stealing ZESCO cables

A man of Kitwe on the Copperbelt was last night electrocuted in a botched mission to steal ZESCO power cables.

ZESCO Spokesperson Henry Kapata says Justice Mwaba of unknown address received electric shock as he attempted to steal Zesco cables from a transformer.

Mr. Kapata says the victim sustained very serious chest and head burns.

He says he is currently admitted to Kitwe Central Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

He notes that such vandalism cases are common on the Copperbelt with ZESCO police arresting almost six people per week for vandalism related cases.

Mr. Kapata says ZESCO has since decided to engage councillors on the Copperbelt to help sensitize the communities on the dangers of vandalizing ZESCO installations.
