IBA issues 153 TV and Radio licenses

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has to date issued a total of 153 broadcasting licenses Countrywide.

Of these 43 are TV licenses while 110 are radio licenses.

Speaking during a quarterly media briefing in Lusaka, Acting IBA Director General Eustace Nkandu said of the issued licenses, Lusaka accounts for 39 TV stations and 28 radio stations.

Mr. Nkandu says the Copperbelt Province accounts for 2 TV stations and 14 radio stations while Southern Province only has 15 radio stations.

He says Eastern Province has 1 TV station and 11 radio stations while North-Western province has 1 TV station and 10 radio stations.

Mr. Nkandu adds that Central Province has 10 radio stations with Western and Northern province both having 7 radio stations while Luapula province has 5 radio stations and Munching province 4 radio stations.

He says the IBA remains committed to promoting a diverse and pluralistic media through issuance of broadcasting licenses.

And Mr Nkandu has reminded all license bearers both new and old that their licenses have conditions which must be adhered to.

He says failure to do so may result in the suspension, cancellation or revocation of the license.

Mr Nkandu states that to this effect, the official deadline for payment of license fees this year is March 31.
