Port of Dar es Salaam rehabs to gobble $600 million

Port of DaTanzania Ports Authority (TPA) will next month sign a US$600 million grant contract for the rehabilitation of the Port of Dar es Salaam.

TPA Director General Deusdedit Kakoko has told media briefing in Lusaka today that the rehabilitation is aimed at ensuring effective transportation of cargo as well as reduce the time it takes to transfer cargo.

Mr. Kakoko has however, noted that in the recent past, the time it takes to transport cargo from Tanzania to Zambia has reduced.

He says it now takes five or less days to transport cargo from Tanzania to Zambia.

Mr Kakoko, however, points out that a lot of time is spent at Kapiri Mposhi as the procedure there is quiet long which is why they are engaging the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) to see how the documentation process can be simplified.

Mr. Kakoko states that Tanzania Ports Authority is committed to providing reliable, efficient and commercially viable services and facilities for its customers.
