Eight victims of Monday’s food stampede at the Olympic Youth Development Center in Lusaka have been put to rest during a mass burial at Chunga Burial site.

Hundreds of grief stricken mourners thronged Chunga Burial ground to pay their last respects.

And National Guidance and Religious Affairs Minister Godfridah Sumaili who represented government described the death of the eight people as very painful as they could have been avoided had the church in question followed government’s instructions which were very clear.

Revered Sumaili used the occasion to caution local churches to establish the authenticity of foreign based organizations that come in the country to conduct religious programmes.

Revered Sumaili says local churches should not simply welcome foreign church organisations because they are coming with something to offer, but ensure they conduct a background check on them.

She states that as spiritual leaders church leaders need to have discernment, by being able to discern what kind of spirit a church from outside is bringing.

And speaking at the same burial ceremony, Lusaka province minister Japhen Mwakalombe appealed to politicians not to politicize or trivialize the death of the eight.

Mr Mwakalombe says the country should instead unite during this trying moment.
