UPND women shun women’s day commemoration

The opposition UPND has justified the reason why its women have shunned this year’s commemoration of the International Women’s Day.

UPND National chairperson for women affairs Namakau Kabwiku says women of her party wants to use this year’s commemoration to protest against the President Edgar Lungu administration.

Ms. Kabwiku says this is over what his party has observed as continued injustices and abuses of human rights its members have been allegedly facing in the last five years.

In a statement to Qfm News Ms. Kabwiku has referred to alleged attacks, battering and detentions on alleged trumped up charges as some of such injustices UPND members are facing

She notes that much as the UPND recognizes international women’s day to be an important day for women it sees no reason of celebrating achievements made by women under such an environment.
