President Lungu urges gender mainstreaming in govt

President Edgar Lungu has observed the need for all government Ministries to make gender an integral part of their sector plans and budgets.

President Lungu is reminding Ministers to keep in mind the 60th session of the United Nations Commission resolution of integrating gender responsive planning in national plans and budgets.

He states that it is through this gender mainstreaming he thinks the Patriotic Front government’s commitment to sustainable development will be demonstrated.

Speaking today during the commemoration of the International Women’s Day in Lusaka President Lungu also urged stakeholders engaged in gender and women empowerment to partner with government.

President Lungu says this is in creating awareness and implementing the new Gender Equity and Equality ACT, 2015.

He notes that this new law is aimed at promoting gender equity and equality as a cross cutting issue in all spheres of life.

President Lungu is optimistic that if stakeholders and government join hands in this manner a difference can be made in achieving planet 50:50 by 2030.

He says government to this effect has government has put in place a legal framework to allow for 50/50 principle in land allocation.
