ULP leader Sakwiba Sikota says his party has been left puzzled why some political parties and the civil society campaigned for this referendum  to fail without realizing the opportunity it created.

Mr. Sikota says his party believes that it is not the government that has lost out or been punished by the failure to adopt the expanded Bill of Rights.

In an interview with QTV News Mr. Sikota notes that party three of the Republican Constitution was actually meat to curtail on and give duties to the government.

Mr. Sikota says this means that it has now become easier for the government in the absence of the expanded Bill of Rights.

He says political parties and civil society organizations that campaigned against the adoption of the expanded Bill of Rights were thus short sighted.
