ACU sees need to support women health

The African Consumer Union (ACU) says there is need for Zambia to support women health in order to increase their economic participation and reduce poverty.

ACU First Vice President Muyunda Ililonga says women need special attention in the health agendas.

Mr. Ililonga notes that the growing burden of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Africa in general and Zambia in particular, poses a major threat to women health and sustainable development.

He says there is need for Zambia to begin to help women now in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal number three on good health and wellbeing.

Mr Ililonga has also noted the need to create smoke free environments as one of the most effective ways to protect women and children from the dangers of passive smoking.

He states that all indoor public spaces and workplaces in Zambia must be declared smoke free zones.
