Immigration Dept removes 96 foreigners

The Department of Immigration has removed a total of ninety six (96) foreign nationals from the country, including eighty-seven (87) removed in a mass removal exercise conducted in Lusaka on 3rd March, 2017.

Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka says those removed during the mass removal exercise include fifty nine (59) Tanzanians, twelve (12) Congolese, seven (07) Ugandans, five (05) Rwandese, three (03) Burundians and one (01) Kenyan.

Mr Nshinka says the vast majority were in detention at Lusaka Central Correctional Facility pending court appearance, while a few had completed serving prison terms.

He says the mass removal was carried out in order to decongest the Correctional Facility.

Meanwhile, the Department between 3rd and 5th March, 2017 arrested a total of twenty nine (29) foreign nationals for various immigration offences.
