CCZ calls on Police to pursue cadres who went to LAZ

REV MATALEThe Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has strongly condemned the acts of violence perpetrated by Patriotic Front cadres targeting Law Association of Zambia president Linda Kasonde.

CCZ General Secretary Reverend Dr Suzanne Matale says the Council is saddened by the harassment of Ms Kasonde by the PF youths who besieged her office on Friday, 3rd March, 2017.

Reverend Matale says the church believes that in a democracy such acts of violence arising from expression of divergent views must not be tolerated because the environment allows for freedom of speech, association and movement which are a privilege to all as enshrined in the supreme law of the land which is the constitution.

She says the CCZ is calling on the Zambia Police to identify the people who went to LAZ offices with an intention to harm the LAZ president and ensure that they face the law.

Revered Matale states that the Council further calls on the PF leadership to discipline their members and restrain them from harassing innocent citizens by threatening their lives with violence whenever they are aggrieved.

She adds that LAZ should be given an opportunity to operate in accordance with its mandate as a professional body without any interference.

Reverend Matale says calling for the resignation of LAZ president Linda Kasonde is totally uncalled for, vindictive and malicious.
