The Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) has from January 2017 to date shut down 40 unregistered drug sale outlets in Lusaka.

ZAMRA public relations officer Ludovic Mwape says seven people have since been prosecuted and a 100% conviction of these cases has been recorded in the Lusaka magistrate court.

He says the authority is concerned that people have engaged in the sale of medicines without registration certificates which is why the authority has intensified inspections for illegal drug outlets.

Mr. Mwape has advised members of the public not to buy medicines from unregistered outlets as the medicine maybe compromised.

He says the authority will not relent in shutting down unregistered outlets.
