Government has assured the nation that it will sustain and promote press freedom in Zambia even in the absence of the Access to Information law.

Chief government Spokesperson Kampamba Mulenga says the PF government has already demonstrated in the last five years its desire to see the media thrive in the country.

Ms. Mulenga who is also minister of information and broadcasting services says this is evidenced by how in just a few years, up to 57 broadcasting licenses have been issued to private entities.

She says this is an achievement no previous regime has attained.

Ms. Mulenga states that contrary to what other stakeholders are alleging, President Edgar Lungu’s administration is not trying to undermine press freedom.
