ZACA concerned price of mealie meal has remained high

The Zambia Consumers Association (ZACA) has expressed concern that the price of mealie meal has remained high.

ZACA Acting Executive Secretary Juba Sakala notes that this is despite government holding several meetings with the millers association of Zambia and grain traders association of Zambia aimed at having the price of the commodity reduced.

Mr. Sakala says it is disappointing that millers are not doing the right thing by reducing the price of mealie meal as agreed during meetings with government.

He has since asked the millers to reduce the price of the staple food immediately as mutually agreed with the government.

And UPND Chairman for Rural Reconstruction and Development Moono Mapani says it is worrying that three weeks after the government signed a MoU with the Millers Association of Zambia and the Grain Traders Association of Zambia to reduce mealie meal prices the price of the commodity has relatively remained high.
