Govt ‘reneges’ on petroleum procurement

Government says the March 2017 deadline to leave the market for procurement of finished petroleum products will not be feasible.

Energy Minister David Mabumba says government needs to first put in place a framework before the private sector can take over the procurement of finished petroleum product.

Mr. Mabumba has told Qfm News by telephone that government’s fear is that without this framework in plMabumba Dace, it will be held to ransom as lacunas are likely to arise in dealing with the private sector.

He states that to this effect, government has already begun public consultations leading to the formulation of the framework.

Mr. Mabumba adds that government is also in the process of amending the Petroleum Act.

He says the proposed amendments to the Act are likely to be tabled during the next sitting of Parliament.
