Chief Mukobela of the Ila speaking people in Namwala district has commended government for the quick response in containing the red locusts that had invaded some areas.
Chief Mukobela says had government not responded quickly, the locusts would have caused severe destruction to the crops.
He has however, urged government to intensify efforts to bring the situation under control so that the locusts do not extend to other areas.
The traditional leader has also urged people in his chiefdom to report suspected cases of locust invasions to relevant authorities in good time.
