President Edgar Lungu says his administration has made significant strides in improving the quality of health services, by embarking on infrastructure development and recruitment of skilled human resource.

The Head of State said this in Mansa when during the handover of the CT Scan and Oxygen Plant equipment, worth over K11 million.

The oxygen plant was installed at a total cost of over K8.3 million whilst the CT Scan was installed at a cost of K2. 9 million.

President Lungu says the PF Government has prioritised the health of the citizens as a key economic investment that would stir national development.

He says in this regard, government last year, recruited a total of 2, 071 health workers, among them 70 consultants specialized in different medical fields.

He adds that the level of investment in the health care system, particularly in infrastructure development, targeting primary health care, is unprecedented.

The Head of State says the infrastructure development comprising upgrading, rehabilitation, construction of hospitals and health training institutions as well as, acquisition of modern equipment for hospitals is aimed at improving service delivery and increasing access to cost effective health care for the people of Zambia.

President Lungu points out that before the installation of the oxygen plant, health facilities in Luapula Province spent colossal amounts of money to procure oxygen either from Lusaka or the Copperbelt saying this, at times, resulted in intermittent shortages of the commodity.

He says the setting up of this plant is a huge milestone, as this life-saving commodity will now be locally produced and availed to other hospitals in the province.
