The Zambian and United Kingdom governments have signed an energy partnership agreement aimed at expanding the household solar market in Zambia

The Energy Africa Partnership Agreement will see the two governments explore ways to complement efforts being made in Zambia in expanding large scale energy infrastructure.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lusaka today, Energy Permanent Secretary Emelda Chola who represented the Zambian government observed that the agreement is also meant to help Zambia achieve Sustainable Development Goal number 7 on Energy.

Brigadier General Chola says the agreement falls in line with the Zambian government’s energy policy and national vision 2030.

She states that the Zambian government is grateful to the UK government for the kind gesture of supporting the expansion of the country’s solar energy market.

And UK Department for International Development (DFID) Head of Office, Bruce Lawson-McDowall who represented the UK government has described the signed Agreement as a demonstration of his country’s willingness to support the Zambian government.

Mr. Lawson-McDowall says this is especially that Zambia prioritizes efforts to tackle the energy crisis.

He states that the UK government recognizes the challenges that Zambia is currently facing with on-grid energy sector and the opportunities this presents to unlock the potential of the household solar market.
