Judiciary urged to diffuse tension among parties

The Judiciary has been called upon to help diffuse the current political differences among political parties in the Country.

Electoral expert Macdonald Chipenzi has observed that the differences between the ruling party and opposition is mainly caused by the sluggish way the Judiciary is handling electoral related cases.

Mr. Chipenzi has told QTV News in an interview that he finds the manner in which the Judiciary has, for example, taken the August 2016 presidential election petition to be casual.

He is of the view that had the this petition been discharged in the constitutionally prescribed 14 days, the tension that is between the ruling party and the opposition would have not existed.

Mr. Chipenzi believes that as long as the last year’ s presidential election petition continues to be before the Courts, the division that is in the Country might even grow bigger.

He notes that this is given the innuendos that are being passed by the two political sides of whom should have or is the legitimate winner of the August general elections.
