Mariani urges predictable govt policies

European Union (EU) head of delegation Alessandro Mariani has observed the need to sustain sound and predictable policies and an enabling environment for the private sector in Zambia.

Mr. Mariani says this is what will enable the private sector to contribute to Zambia’s economic development.

Speaking during a European Union-Zambia Business Club dialogue meeting in Lusaka today, Mr. Mariani says this is why dialogue between government and the private sector is essential.

Mr. Mariani notes that providing a platform for such dialogue meetings is thus the main objective of the EU-Zambia Business Club.

He says the EU wants to establish stronger engagements with the private sector.

Speaking at the same event, Finance Minister Felix Mutati assured the private sector that government is and will be there to service the sector to grow and create wealth.

Mr. Mutati says governments needs the private sector to grow to enable it generate taxes to industrialize the Zambian economy.

And Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe has reaffirmed government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for private sector investments.

Ms. Mwanakatwe states that government’s desire is to see Zambia’s investment profile raised.

National Planning and Development Minister Lucky Mulusa also reaffirmed government’s commitment to upping the restructuring of policies in line with the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP).
