Zambia marks 52 years of Independence

Zambia today commemorates its 52nd Independence anniversary after the independence struggle from the British colonial rule in 2064.

For most Zambians, this is a day to reflect.

Zambia became the ninth African state to gain independence from the British crown.

Today’s Independence Day celebrations will be commemorated under the theme “Working together for greater unity, hard work, and patriotism”.

Meanwhile, the opposition UPND has indicated that it will not be part of any celebrations today.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma has told QFM News via telephone that the party will not be part of any celebrations for fear of being attacked by the PF cadres.

Mr. Kakoma says the party members cannot risk their lives by attending any of the celebrations when in the past events they were harassed and physically attacked by the PF cadres.

He says the party fears to attend state organized functions because each time they do so, they are attacked and that they have to preserve their lives by shunning the events.

The UPND Spokesperson says many Zambians will recall that the PF cadres have gone to extents of even stripping off naked UPND women who attended state organized events.
