The media in the Country has been advised against ignoring reporting about issues that affect them.

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia Chapter has observed that the media in the Country appears to have paid a blind eye to issues of persecution and stifling of their freedoms.

MISA Zambia Chapter Chairperson Hellen Mwale has wondered why media houses do not come to the aid of their fellow media houses that fall prey to alleged persecution of the state.

Ms. Mwale thinks that the Zambian media should emulate other media institutes of other Countries who take keen interest in any reports of harassment of journalists.

She notes that the media in the Country should be wary that it will have itself to blame if it wakes up one day and realize that its freedoms have been taken away by the state.

And Ms. Mwale notes that her organization is concerned by the level of abuse being perpetrated by journalists on social media using fake names.

She personally thinks that if a journalist has facts there is no need to hide behind a pseudo name and use social media.
