Govt cautioned against tolerating misuse of public funds

Government has been cautioned against tolerating the continued misuse of public funds if the country is to make progress in poverty reduction.

Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) Executive Director Patrick Nshindano says his organization is deeply concerned that some public officials have continued to misappropriate public funds knowing too well that the nation is not doing well in terms of reducing poverty levels.

Mr. Nshindano says government should seal the loopholes being exploited to misappropriate public funds if the nation is to reduce the high poverty levels drastically.

He adds that government should also strengthen the budgeting system by sticking to the budget to avoid the misappropriation of public funds.

Mr Nshindano states that this is the more reason why CSPR has been advocating for the implementation of the Budgeting and Planning Bill in order to address such challenges.
