French power utility expresses interest in investing in Zambia

The Electricity of France (EDF) has expressed interest to invest in Zambia.

The EDF which is largely owned by the French state has identified Zambia as one of the priority countries for investment in the Southern Africa.

The French electric utility company will focus on opportunities in conventional hydro project development, small hydro project development and other projects related to hydro and solar.

A delegation from the EDF has since been scheduled to visit Zambia from 4th to 7th October next week.

The team will be led by a Mr Mario Bernardo, Director, EDF International Department for Southern Africa.

The team will meet various players in the energy sectors including ZESCO Limited, Energy Regulations Board, and Office for Promoting Private Power Investments (OPPI) among others.

This visit is a follow-up on the February official visit in France this year by President Edgar Lungu who while there met French investors and encouraged them to consider investing in Zambia.

Meanwhile, another delegation from France24 will be in Zambia for an official launch of France 24 on the ZNBC digital terrestrial television (DTTV) on the 4th October next week.

This is an implementation of the agreement between France Medias Monde and ZNBC that was signed during the Republican President’s visit to Paris, France in February, 2016.

The delegation will be led by a Mr. Jean-Emmanuel CASALTA who is the Executive Vice President, Strategy and Development.
