Economist Yusuf Dodia has advised government to ensure that it invests massively in the energy sector if the country’s economy is to perform better.

And Mr. Dodia says Finance Minister Felix Mutati should work hard in ensuring that the government puts in place measures which help service both international and local debt.

Mr. Dodia says Zambia’s external debt stands at US$9 billion saying this is not good for a developing country like Zambia.

He says he is confident that Mr. Mutati, who he says is a seasoned politician in matters of finances, will introduce measures which will help Zambia reduce debt.

Mr. Dodia states that the focus for the government is to see how they will reduce that debt so that it does not become a burden to the country’s economy.
