Zanaco coach Mumamba Numba admits that Saturday’s away loss at second-placed Nkana was down to poor defending.

The Faz Super League leaders were humbled 4-2 by Nkana, at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe, to see them suffer their third top-flight defeat of the 2016 season.

Zanaco’s central defence of George Chiluyfa and Gift Sakuwaha, who was making a rare start in place of suspended captain Ziyo Tembo, failed to click, allowing Nkana to take a 3-1 half-time lead.

Sakuwaha was eventually withdrawn in the 48th minute and replaced by Peter Banda.

“We have lost the game out of our own mistakes. We were loose in our marking at the back, but if we were tight, we couldn’t have conceded those goals,” Zanaco coach Numba said.

The defeat saw Zanaco’s lead cut from eight to five points by Nkana, as the leaders remain on 55 points after 24 matches played, with 10 left before the 2016 season comes to a close.

“We are still leading, and all we need to do is to stay focused and pick up the pieces, and get maximum points in our next games,” Numba said.

“The race is still on. We have 10 games to go and we still have a lot of opportunities to remain contenders for this title.”
