Mooted Religious Affairs ministry received with mixed feelings

The pronouncement by President-elect Edgar Lungu to create a new ministry for religious affairs has been received with mixed feelings.

The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) says the move is welcome as it will help strengthen the Christian faith in the country.Pukuta

EFZ Executive Director Pukuta Mwanza notes that at the moment, the country has a lot of religious activities going on and therefore it would be good to have a ministry to oversee all such activities.

He however says there is need to ensure the people of Zambia understand the sole purpose of this ministry.

But Former church of God overseer Bishop John Mambo says the three church mother bodies in the country are enough to play the role the ministry will play.

Bishop Mambo says the ministry will work against the spirit of togetherness and may bring divisions among Bishop Mambo QFMchurches.

He has also questioned whether the country has enough money to support the creation of more ministries.

And Christian Coalition president Charles Mwape says the country should draw lessons from the religious desk created by Former late President Fredrick Chiluba which was inaccessible to the men of God.
