Khune bemoans Chiefs MTN8 exit

Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has expressed his disappointment at the team’s MTN8 early exit after suffering 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday night.

Speaking after the result Khune said, “It’s very sad for us to be knocked out in the first round of the MTN8. A big team like Kaizer Chiefs deserves better. We threw everything at Cape Town City but we couldn’t get anything out of it. We gave it our all; we’re disappointed not to get a result in the match.”

The Chiefs captain is surprised with the team’s recent results, having lost their Absa Premiership opener to Bidvest Wits on Tuesday.

“It be quite fair, for us as players, we are trying everything we can. The coach is planning well, he’s training us well, he’s preparing us well, we just can’t score goals.

I think that’s where the problem is. We work a lot at training on finishing and we do take those chances at training.

In the friendly matches, we play well and score a great number of goals but when it comes to competitive matches I don’t know what’s happening. But we just have to go back to the drawing board, work harder and improve on our finishing because that is what has let us down.

If you recall, our last game (a 2-1 defeat in the league at Bidvest Wits), the only goal we scored was from (Lorenzo) Gordinho and he’s a central defender. That’s what we expect from everyone at Kaizer Chiefs.

Whoever wears the Kaizer Chiefs jersey must be able to help the team, whether scoring or defending or creating. We’ll continue to work on our finishing because I think that’s where we are lacking at the moment. We don’t have any problem with anyone. We are a very happy camp.”

Khune has asked Amakhosi supporters to be patient with the team.

“Just to say to the fans to be patient with us. We’ll surely bounce back and we still have the Telkom Knockout and the Nedbank Cup to fight for and make the fans happy because that’s what they deserve.”
