Constitutional Court advised to be wary of time

The Constitutional Court has been urged to be wary justice will not be done if fails to hear the presidential election petition before it within the constitutional prescribed 14 days.

The Young Africa Leaders Initiative (YALI) is concerned that the Constitutional Court has spent more time on hearing preliminary issues on the expense of the actual substantive petition itself.

Governance advisor Isaac Mwanza says his organization thinks that time is too limited for the Constitutional Court to continue entertaining preliminary issues any further.

Mr. Mwanza says YALI foresees a situation where the Constitutional Court might be petitioned against hearing the presidential election petition if the 14 days it has elapses.

He notes that the Constitutional Court should however keep in mind that the matter before it is of great public interest.

Mr. Mwanza states that this means that the Court should be advised to dispose-off  the presidential election petition in good time.

He spoke to QTV News in an interview.
