Dr. Mumba says he doubts any such charges will presently hold any water considering that the Constitutional Court has not yet made any ruling on thhe petition filed by the UPND president.

In an interview with Qfm News, Dr. Mumba states that if there is anyone who should be charged with treason it is President Edgar Lungu himself and PF members.

He says President Lungu and the PF are already implying that the UPND petition will be thrown out by the Constitutional Court.

Dr. Mumba has referred to President Lungu’s recent statement that he is going to Mfuwe on a working holiday to among other things reflect on the political scenario in the country as he prepares to form a new Cabinet as one such indication that he is undermining and intimidating judges sitting on the Constitutional Court bench.

But PF Deputy Spokesperson Frank Bwalya says Police should arrest and charge Dr. Mumba as his statement borders on treason.

He says the PF does not think anyone should be referred to as Zambia’s President when President Edgar Lungu is still the incumbent Head of State.

Mr. Bwalya states that as far as the ruling party is concerned, Mr. Hichilema is only a leader of a political party.

He adds that it also misleading for Mr. Hichilema himself to suggest that there is currently no Republican President in Zambia in view of the UPND petition before the Constitutional Court.
