Forest Rangers ended their five-game winless run when they rallied to make nemesis Red Arrows pay the penalty with a 2-1 home win on Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Two second-half penalties converted by striker Felix Nyaende handed Forest their first win since June 19, when they beat Green Buffaloes 1-0 at the same venue on that date.

Since then, Forest have picked up four defeats and a 0-0 draw that they recorded last weekend at home against Napsa Stars.

The victory was also Forest’s first since returning from the two-week mid-season break on July 12.

Forest went into the break one-down after striker Festus Mbewe handed Arrows the lead.

Arrows got the goal thanks to Forest goalkeeper Jarios Mulenga who failed to collect Mbewe’s speculative cross in the 37th minute when he fumbled the ball into the back of the net.

Nyaende them equalised with his first penalty in the 65th minute after Ronald Chibwe was brought down by Arrows goalkeeper Ken Mumba.

He completed his brace six minutes later after defender Joseph Zimba handled the ball in the box.

The result also ended Forest’s ten-match drought against Arrows dating back to May 7, 2011 when they beat the Lusaka side 2-0 in Ndola.
