Talks to establish SA farmers out-grower scheme in Zambia still ongoing

Negotiations for the establishment of out-grower schemes by South African farmers in Zambia are still underway.

This follows the expression of interest by some South African farmers who recently made trade tours in Zambia for purposes of investing in the country’s Agriculture sector.

Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba says the negotiations are currently between his office which led the trade tours and the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU).

Mr. Mwamba has told QTV News in an interview that small scale farmers are also part of these negotiations.

He says the idea is to ensure that as these foreigner farmers begin to invest in the country’s Agriculture sector; it does not look as though land is being grabbed from the local people.
