Employment Act causing confusion- ZAM

The Zambia Association of Manufacturers says the implementation of the employment Act which has banned casualization is bringing confusion in the operations of some companies.

ZAM Chief Executive Officer Maybin Nsupila tells QTV News that the association is receiving a number of complaints from its members over this issue, with workers through their union leaders demanding to be put on pensionable contracts.

Mr. Nsupila argues that some jobs are contractual or seasonal in nature and do not require workers to be employed on a permanent basis or have pensionable contracts.

He says it is for this reason that ZAM is appealing to the Ministry of Labour to provide guide as most manufacturers do not know what to do with regards seasonal jobs.

But Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda has told QFM News via telephone from Solwezi that government has an open door policy where such matters can be negotiated with the ministry.

Mr. Shamenda says this is the reason why his ministry exists, to guide the nation on labour matters.

The Minister has since advised all grieving companies to visit his office and engage the ministry on such matters and be guided accordingly.
