AVAP sees sense in Greenfield’s comment

The Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) says the statement by US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Affairs Linda Thomas-Greenfield that Zambia’s democratic reputation is on the line depending on how the country conducts the forthcoming elections should be taken seriously.

AVAP Executive Director Richwell Mulwani says his organization does not think the US Government official would have made such a statement if she had not seen anything wrong.

Mr. Mulwani says AVAP believes Zambia will do well do an introspection of what has prompted the US Government issue such a statement.

He says there is need for the country to uphold the freedom of the media, and for political parties to abide by the electoral laws.
