The Law Association of Zambia says the rule of law in the country is under severe threat.

LAZ President Linda Kasonde says the manner in which the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and the law enforcement agencies have gone against the Post newspapers appears to give credence to the argument by the newspaper that its closure was done in bad faith.

Speaking during a media briefing today, Ms. Kasonde says this is worrying especially with the impending General election.

She urges government to always apply the law fairy, equally, consistently and reasonably.

Ms. Kasonde has since advised ZRA and the law enforcement agencies to immediately respect the court order obtained by the Post Newspapers for the release of its assets.

The LAZ President says failure to act in accordance with the law will call into question the government’s statement that it is not interfering in the matter, and that it adheres to constitutionalism and basic human rights such as Freedom of expression and freedom of the media.
