ECZ Chairperson Justice Esau Chulu
Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chairperson Justice Esau Chulu has advised candidates taking part in the elections to subscribe to the provisions of the electoral code of conduct to ensure fair play.
Justice Chulu said this in Lusaka this morning when he met the ten presidential candidates that have so far paid the nomination fees.
Speaking during the same meeting with presidential candidates and their running mates, Justice Chulu reminded the candidates that only when they successfully file in their nomination papers that they are guaranteed of participation in an election as a candidate.
He has urged political parties to advise their members and cadres to ensure that they abide by the provisions of the electoral code of conduct and other laws.
Judge Chulu has also stressed the need for political parties to commit to conduct peaceful campaigns and avoid acts of bribery, corruption and any other acts that might lead to violence or conflict before, during and after the elections.
President Edgar Lungu and his running mate Inonge Wina, FDD president Edith Nawakwi, Green party President Sinkamba were among presidential candidates that attended the meeting.
