Kitwe & Ndola Times of Zambia Union leaders suspended

Union leaders at the Times of Zambia, Kitwe and Ndola Chapels of the Zambia Union of Journalists (ZUJ) have been suspended for allegedly inciting their members to stage a sit-in protest to push for the payment of their four months’ salary arrears.

Sources have told QFM News that two union executive members received letters of suspension on Thursday following the sit-in protest staged by workers from Monday to Wednesday.

The sources have revealed that while workers at the State owned newspaper have not been paid their salaries from February to date, the Managing Director is said to be up to date with his salary.

They have disclosed that while workers resolved to resume work on Thursday following the intervention of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) under which all parastatals fall, management decided to suspended union leaders for allegedly inciting their members to go on an illegal sitting in protest.

This despite management through the Deputy Managing Director having been informed of the decision of the workers to stage a protest over unpaid salary arrears.
