DMMU driver attacked in Nanga on suspicion that he is a ‘ritual killer’

Police in Nanga have arrested three people after they attacked a driver from Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) after suspecting him of being a ritual killer.

Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Esther Katongo has confirmed the development to QFM News in a statement that the driver was in the area on official duty with four other officers who were working in the field at the time of the attack.

Ms Katongo explains that the police received a report of Robbery which occurred yesterday around 11 hours in which a driver of DMMU, whose name they have withheld for security reasons, was attacked and Robbed off his personal property, a Samsung phone valued at K 5,000 and a wallet containing K2, 100 all valued at K7, 100 and keys of the official vehicle Toyota Land Cruiser by a mob of Nanga residents after suspecting him of being a ritual killer.

She says the driver sustained some injuries and a cut inside the upper lip.

She adds that upon seeing officers who rushed to the scene, the mob scampered in all directions. Ms Katongo says after Investigations, three people were nabbed and keys to the Land Cruiser official vehicle which he was driving were recovered.

She furthermore discloses that the victim was rushed to Nanga clinic for medical attention.

The Police Assistant Public Relations Officer has since warned members of the public to desist from making alarming statements with a view of perpetrating their criminal activities and that all who will be found wanting will be dealt with accordingly.
