YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza

Parliamentarians have been urged to prioritize Bills that will enhance the Country’s democratic dispensation ahead of the general election.

Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Governance Advisor, Isaac Mwanza has cautioned Members of Parliament that they have limited time to sit before Parliament is dissolved to have the luxury of pro-longed debates.

Mr. Mwanza says his organization expects Parliamentarians to table for example a Bill that will strengthen the Electoral Act.

Mr. Mwanza says besides not addressing the issue of being granted more powers, this Act has left the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) guessing in how it should conduct this year’s general election.

He says YALI has taken note that the ECZ is not guided of how it is supposed to conduct mayoral and chairpersons’ elections.
