The Bank of Zambia working with the Zambia Police have discovered some counterfeit K100 and K50 notes in circulation.

BOZ Head of Communications Kanguya Mayondi in a statement says the counterfeit notes are scanned copies of original banknotes bearing various serial numbers and have a smooth surface compared to genuine banknotes.

Mr. Mayondi explains that the smoothness of the fake banknotes is furthermore pronounced on the peak pixel, which is a colored latent image on the front of the banknote, showing a fish eagle’s head/BOZ with tactile embossing and color shift effects which are visible when the banknote is tilted and turned.

He has urged the general public to be extra cautious when transacting in the two denominations and must closely examine the specified security features and all other security features on the banknotes.

Mr. Mayondi further states that any suspicious banknotes discovered during transactions should be reported to the nearest Police station or one of the Bank of Zambia offices either in Ndola or Lusaka.
