PF can’t pass constitution single handedly – Chama

PF Secretary General Davies Chama says the ruling party does not have the numbers in Parliament to single handedly secure the passage of the Constitution Bill into law.

Mr. Chama says contrary to sDavies Chamasuggestions by the Grand Coalition on the Campaign for the People Driven Constitution that it practically has 109 members in Parliament, the ruling PF only has 87 members.

He has told Qfm News in an interview that the fact that it will require at least 106 Members of Parliament to get a majority vote in the House, the success of the Constitution Bill depends both on the PF and the opposition.

Mr. Chama states that this means that the ruling PF will not get the blame if the Constitution Bill fails in Parliament.

He says there is nothing more the ruling PF can do other than what it has already done by taking the Constitution Bill to Parliament.

Mr Chama states that the ruling party only hopes that MPs will support the Bill when it comes up for debate in the House.

PMr. Chama says the ruling party wants to put to an end to the debate on the enactment of the new Constitution once and for all.
