Lungu visits Bauleni in the aftermath of destructive rains

President Edgar Lungu has advised against politicizing yesterday’s heavy rainstorm in Lusaka which one person died and a number of houses collapsed.

President Lungu says tragedies resulting from extreme weather are inevitable occurrences.

He however, belives that yesterday’s heavy downpour is a wake-up call on the need to regularly start checking the quality of buildings in the Country.

President Lungu says there is also need for people in the Country to start insuring their houses.

He said this in Lusaka when he visited ZNBC Twin Palm Transmitter staff houses and Bauleni compound where houses has their roofs blown off and houses collapsed.

And President Lungu says government will take stock of what has happened and see what lessons can be learnt.

He notes that going forward, the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) needs to be proactive in responding to such tragedy arising from natural occurrences.

Asked whether government will assist the affected families, President Lungu has told journalists that DMMU will act.

He says if they will be any challenges government will intervene.

President Lungu who was accompanied by among others notable people Lusaka Central Member of Parliament Guy Scott, DMMU Coordinator Patrick Kangwa and State House Deputy Minister Mulenga Sata also visited victims of the yesterday’s heavy rainstorm at Bauleni clinic.
