CBU lecturers agree to resume work

Copperbelt University lecturers have agreed to resume work after days of work stoppage to push for the removal of University management led by Professor Naison Ngoma.CBU

The lecturer had defied Higher Education Minister Michael Kaingu’s directive to end their illegal work stoppage after a caretaker committee appointed to look into their grievances found their demands lacked merit.

And the decision by lecturers to resume work has cheered students at the institution who had their academic calendar disturbed due to the failure by both government and the lecturers union to settle their differences.

Copperbelt University Students Union (COBUSU) President Humphrey Mwenya has told QFM News via telephone that what had happened should serve as a wakeup call to both government and management to learn to resolve matters on time without affecting the education calendar.

He notes that what led to the issue protracting was poor flow of information and poor management skills.

Mr Mwenya adds that government should be sensitive enough in responding to such challenges in order to spare the students the anguish they have had to go through.
