US Ambassador to Zambia Erick Schultz has hailed President Edgar Lungu’s decision to take time to work from the Copperbelt at a time when the mining sector is facing various operational challenges.

Mr. Schultz says the move by the Head of State shows that he is committed to addressing the challenges the mining sector is facing.

Mr. Schultz states that investors world over want to know the predictability of the market by being informed of policies that are being put in place to address challenges that arise from different circumstances.

He says President Lungu has therefore done well to decide to work from the Copperbelt and personally engage mine owners on issues they are facing amidst low copper prices on the international market.

And Ambassador Schultz has encouraged the Zambian government to embrace policies aimed at diversifying the country’s economy.

Mr. Schultz says it’s good that the Zambian government has realized the need to diversify the economy and stop the over dependence on copper as a major foreign exchange earner.
