Govt encourages private sector to invest in storage facilities

Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda has encouraged the private sector to invest in storage facilities and transportation in order to limit the Food Reserve Agency’s involvement maize marketing.

Mr. Lubinda says the FRA is made to get involved in maize marketing because the private sector is too weak.

He says he would not want a situation where FRA continues to be the major player in maize marketing at the expense of the private sector.

Mr. Lubinda states that he would love the Zambian business to grow which is why when FRA releases maize on the market, he makes sure that it’s released to Zambian companies and not foreign companies.

He says this way the money can be returned into the economy if the private sector is able to buy maize.
