President Lungu shaking hands with Mr. Hichilema
The Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) has applauded the symbolic gesture made by President Edgar Lungu and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema during the memorial service for the late President Michael Sata at St Ignatius where they shook hands.
ZCID Executive Director Horrance Chilando in a statement says ZCID particularly applauds Mr Hichilema for taking time to attend a state organized function after a long absence from such functions.
Mr Chilando says this is an exciting moment for the ZCID which will go down in history, adding that there is need to see more of this from political leaders.
He says it is hoped that this will mark a new beginning in the manner politicians relate especially party presidents.
Mr Chilando states that this day has shown that unity can be achieved in diversity.
He adds that it is ZCID’s sincerely hope that this meeting though brief will lead to more organized meetings to discuss pertinent national issues.
Mr. Chilando has encouraged political parties to talk to each other and not at each other.
