TIZ welcomes Kapoko conviction

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has welcomed the sentencing of Former Ministry of Health Human Resources Officer Henry Kapoko to two years imprisonment by the Lusaka Magistrate court for abuse of authority of office.

TIZ Information Charles Chulu says the sentencing of Mr. Kapoko will send strong self-control signals to wouKapokold-be offenders.

He says TIZ does not rejoice in seeing people going to jail, but sturdily feels society needs leaders who are champions of integrity, accountability and transparency and also lead by example.

Mr Chulu says if civil servants fall short of values relating to integrity, accountability and transparency, then they deserve to go to prison to reform.

He says it is the hope of TIZ that the conviction and sentencing of Mr. Kapoko will serve as a good lesson to the current PF leadership, opposition parties and public service workers on the need to respect tax payer’s money, public authority and office.

Mr Chulu adds that TIZ strongly believe that it does not pay to involve oneself in criminal activities but rather the results are always unpleasant.

He states that in this light, the Zambian people expect their leaders of Mr. Kapoko’s standing to abide by the Zambian laws.
